Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP)
As a Social Worker within Milton Keynes Adult Services you’ll get the opportunity to train as an Approved Mental Health Professional, taking on the responsibilities of a specialist mental health professional.
What do AMHP's do?
AMHPs coordinate assessments under the Mental Health Act 1983 for adults who appear to be suffering from a mental disorder and therefore might pose a risk to themselves or others because of their state of mind.
AMHPs use laws such as the Mental Health Act 1989 and Mental Capacity Act 2005 to make sound legal decisions in order to uphold people’s rights under the Human Rights Act 1998.
Train to become an AMHP

Working as an AMHP is a unique and sometimes complex role that many Social Workers find highly rewarding. At Milton Keynes Adult Services if you meet our criteria, we’ll fund your training to become a qualified AMHP and give you hands-on-help while you learn.
